Plastic Roller Assemblies
Plastic roller assemblies are low cost solutions for lighter load applications. These designs consist of a plastic wheel paired with either a screw machined or cold-headed stud.
There are two types of studs: one with a head, the other headless. The headless type permits stud to be staked in place and wheel assembled after painting (or other operations). The headless typed also permits field replacement service of rollers. Standard mounting stud is made from free machining steel, zinc plated. The stud is also available in stainless steel, brass and aluminum. Standard roller is one piece plastic with or without integral shoulder. Materials for rollers include nylon, Delrin®, glass-filled plastics -- virtually any moldable thermo-plastic. Applications: Inexpensive drawer slides, idler wheels, furniture, appliances, store fixtures, displays, etc.
Design to fit your space
The design of the outer race allows you to create a plastic roller assembly that fits within the constraints of your application. Features that can be customized on the outer race include:
- Diameter and Width
- Shape
- Type of Material
Design to simplify your assembly
Plastic roller assemblies can be designed with a variety of mounting styles. You can reduce the number of components in your application and simplify the assembly process with a properly selected bearing mount. Features that can be customized on the bearing mount include:
- Mount diameter and length
- Fastening style
Design to carry your load
Custom plastic roller assemblies allow you to match the tire shape and size needed with a specific mounting style. You can use different colors on plastic rollers to differentiate one part from another. Materials can be selected for both the stud and roller to optimize your design.
Design to survive the elements
Environmental conditions must be addressed in any effective plastic roller assembly design. Both corrosion and temperature conditions can be addressed with a properly designed plastic roller assembly. With today’s advances in plastics, replacing a machined metal roller assembly with one made from plastic is a distinct possibility. The fact that National Bearings is a custom manufacturer means we can match our products to your needs. Features that can be customized include:
- Roller Material
- Glass or filler content
- Stud material
- Stud plating
Design to match your product life cycle
Over designing for your product application is a missed opportunity. Choosing a custom designed plastic roller assembly allows you to match the life cycle of your application without wasting resources on a "one size fits all" plastic roller assembly.
