About National Bearings | History

Founded in 1917, National Bearings Company began as a manufacturer of stamped metal bearings, primarily for the bicycle and automotive industries. In fact, many of the clutches on the original Model-T Fords used ball retainers manufactured by National Bearings. These ball retainers launched our company into manufacturing custom bearings and bearing components.

Over the years, National's product lines have expanded tremendously. We now produce a wide variety of products consisting of thrust bearings, angular contact bearings, radial bearings, thrust retainers and plastic roller assemblies. And yes, we still manufacture cup & cone, or "bicycle retainers."
